Re-packaging News
I think all broadsheets should be re-designed into tabloids. It’s just such a hassle to handle those large flimsy pages. So many times, I’ve seen people make a fool out of themselves trying to wrestle with broadsheets in public transport. Although sometimes, it is quite amusing to see them try to turn the page and fold it into a single page while trying not to knock the person beside them.
If newspapers are so afraid of losing their audience to sleeker, prettier, more well-designed formats of news on mobile devices, I suggest they head towards a more user-friendly reading experience. Honestly, if newspapers were aesthetically prettier, I’d be willing to pay more for it, and I’ll definitely pick it up more often. And I don’t think people need to be design-savvy to appreciate good editorial design. A well thought out design allows the stories to be told better and allows the readers to receive information clearly anyway.
I’d be so proud if our city had a colourful, intelligent, critical, and educational newspaper. Perhaps we could realise that dream?
